Puzzle #28: Three Hexagon Sizes
Medium · Distribution · target time about 17 seconds
Which option completes the pattern?
How to solve it (answer: F)
The rule
Each row and each column has one tiny, small, and large shape.
Step by step
- Look at the top row: a small hollow hexagon, then a large hollow hexagon, then a tiny hollow hexagon.
- The middle row uses the same values in a different order.
- The bottom row has a large hollow hexagon and a tiny hollow hexagon, so it is missing a small hollow hexagon.
Tip: List what each row already has, then pick the one value the row is missing.
Why the wrong options look right
The wrong options keep most of the pattern and change the size or the fill, so each one looks finished at a glance. Check both before you choose.
- Option A: This row already has a large shape.
- Option B: This row already has a tiny shape.
- Option C: Every hexagon in the grid is hollow, but this one is solid.
- Option D: This row already has a large shape. Every hexagon in the grid is hollow, but this one is solid.
- Option E: This row already has a tiny shape. Every hexagon in the grid is hollow, but this one is solid.
