Puzzle #3: One of Each Shape
Easy · Distribution · target time about 13 seconds
Which option completes the pattern?
How to solve it (answer: F)
The rule
Each row and each column has one circle, pentagon, and hexagon.
Step by step
- Look at the top row: a hollow hexagon, then a hollow circle, then a hollow pentagon.
- The middle row uses the same values in a different order.
- The bottom row has a hollow circle and a hollow pentagon, so it is missing a hollow hexagon.
Tip: List what each row already has, then pick the one value the row is missing.
Why the wrong options look right
The wrong options keep most of the pattern and change the shape or the fill, so each one looks finished at a glance. Check both before you choose.
- Option A: This row already has a circle.
- Option B: This row already has a pentagon.
- Option C: Every hexagon in the grid is hollow, but this one is solid.
- Option D: This row already has a circle. Every hexagon in the grid is hollow, but this one is solid.
- Option E: This row already has a pentagon. Every hexagon in the grid is hollow, but this one is solid.
