Puzzle #30: Circles by Fill and Size
Hard · Distribution · target time about 25 seconds
Which option completes the pattern?
How to solve it (answer: C)
The rule
Each row and each column has one dotted, solid, and striped shape and one tiny, medium, and very large shape.
Step by step
- Look at the top row: a tiny solid circle, then a medium dotted circle, then a very large striped circle.
- The middle row uses the same values in a different order.
- The bottom row has a very large dotted circle and a tiny striped circle, so it is missing a medium solid circle.
- Check both rules: only one option fits them both.
Tip: List what each row already has, then pick the one value the row is missing.
Why the wrong options look right
The wrong options keep most of the pattern and change the fill or the size, so each one looks finished at a glance. Check both before you choose.
- Option A: This row already has a dotted shape.
- Option B: This row already has a striped shape.
- Option D: A small shape never appears in the grid, so it cannot complete the row.
- Option E: This row already has a dotted shape. A small shape never appears in the grid, so it cannot complete the row.
- Option F: This row already has a striped shape. A small shape never appears in the grid, so it cannot complete the row.
